Behind every slice of millefeuille<\/strong> \u2014 that iconic dessert made of ultra-thin layers of puff pastry filled with silky pastry cream \u2014 lies a story that spans centuries. \ud83d\udcdc<\/p>\n

Its earliest known mention dates back to 1651, in the cookbook Le Cuisinier Fran\u00e7ois<\/em> by Fran\u00e7ois Pierre de La Varenne. \ud83d\udcd6<\/p>\n

Outside of Europe, especially in Russia, this dessert is known as \u201cNapoleon,\u201d a name often linked to the 1812 liberation of Moscow. However, many professional pastry chefs trace its modern form to 1867, when the renowned Parisian p\u00e2tissier Adolphe Seugnot presented it as a signature creation. \ud83d\uddfc<\/p>\n

The millefeuille is so beloved that even on the other side of the world \ud83c\udf0f \u2014 in the state of Victoria, Australia \ud83c\udde6\ud83c\uddfa \u2014 it\u2019s celebrated at a dedicated festival called \u201cThe Great Australian Vanilla Slice Triumph.\u201d<\/strong> \ud83c\udf89<\/p>\n
